No matter the type of bugs crawling in and around your home, if we had to take a guess, most of them are unwelcome and unwanted visitors. As beneficial as they may be to the environment, they’re not always the best add on for our home or business life. Ant Control

Ants are one common household insect that can quickly overstay their visit. These tiny scavengers will enter your home or business looking for moisture and a convenient food source, which is their main goal. Ants often enter a home through even the smallest of cracks around doors or windows, but they can find numerous entrances to your home or building. Once inside, the growing ant colony can become a major problem very rapidly.Don't allow those ants in your Louisville home anymore! Contact an insect exterminator today.

Ants mature from juveniles to adults in a matter of a few days, making their presence increase quickly as well. Once an ant problem has infected your home, it is generally very difficult to get rid of them on your own without a professional exterminator.

Knowing what type of ants you’re dealing with helps narrow down what type of defenses to use against them. Listed below, are the most common four types of ants found in homes in the Louisville area:

Carpenter Ants: This specific type of ant can grow to be about five-eighths inches long. They tend to burrow in damp wood, but have also been known to damage solid wood. They do not eat the wood, but simply remove it in order to build a nest.

Odorous House Ants: This particular type of ant can be easily identified, especially when crushed, as it gives off a pungent, rotten coconut odor. Colonies may be composed of several hundred to 100,000 ants. Their nest can be found inside or outside, as they often build nests in wall voids and beneath flooring in your home.

Pavement Ants: These little guys tend to stick around where their name suggests. They generally make their nests in cracks of pavement and under stones, but don’t be fooled, as they are completely capable of infesting a building. Occasionally, they may be found in walls, under floors, and in insulation. Pavement ants are about one-eighth inch long.

Pharaoh Ants: These ants like to invade restaurants, apartment buildings, and similar commercial structures and dwellings. Pharaoh ants enter buildings to take advantage of things such as crumbs, spills, moisture, and safe shelter. These types of ants can carry diseases and can grow to be around one-sixteenth inch long.

Roach Infestation and Removal

One other common pest found scampering around Louisville, Kentucky is roaches. These insects are, unfortunately, very hard to get rid of. Roaches are nocturnal creatures, which allows them to multiply in alarming numbers, all while going largely unnoticed. They can be found in any type of environment for our region, and can prove destructive in large numbers.

The problem with roaches is that when they come in contact with a food source, they often excrete filth and germs. Even worse, their excrement not only leaves behind an offensive odor, but also attracts other cockroaches.

Depending on their environment, cockroaches can pick up disease-causing bacteria, such as Salmonella, and spread their germs on to other foods and surfaces. House dust containing roach feces and discarded body parts can trigger allergic reactions and asthma in certain individuals. For these reasons, it’s crucial to contact a professional insect exterminator to effectively eradicate roach infestations in your Louisville, Kentucky home or business.

When dealing with roaches, the pest that never seems to go away, it’s important to know just exactly where they’re coming from, what they’re searching for, and what method of action your professional pest management team will take in the fight against them. There are three types of roaches common to the Louisville area:

German Cockroaches:

This is your most commonly known type of roach. They can be found in and around homes, apartment buildings, and places like supermarkets and restaurants where food sources are plentiful. Along with food, German roaches are seeking out moisture and warmth, where they can safely multiply at startling rates. Their small size allows them to hide more efficiently, and they have few natural predators once they’ve made their way inside your home.

Oriental Cockroaches:

Oriental roaches are almost opposite in nature when compared to German roaches. This specific type of roach can be commonly found outdoors, but often enter buildings through sewer pipes. They tend to live near the ground and in warm, damp areas, which is why they are often, more commonly referred to as “waterbugs”. Oriental roaches can be found in yards, beneath leaves, in dumps, and crawl spaces. They feed on all kinds of filth, rubbish, and other decaying organic matter.

American Cockroaches:

American roaches are the largest type of cockroach that invades homes. These creatures can move quickly and are usually looking for a dark area to hide in. If they become frightened, they have the ability to fly. They often live outdoors, as they prefer warm, damp areas like flowerbeds, under mulch, or even inside sewer systems. If they begin to make their way into your home, it’s often because they’re on the hunt for a steady supply of food and water.
